New legal British tender revealed

For the first time in 40 years, the Royal Mint has chosen a new set of designs for the reverse of the coins, first introduced in the Coin Design Competition 2005. The designer, Matthew Dent of Bangor, North Wales, was paid £35,000 (GBP) for his designs, which depict the Shield of the Royal Arms spread over the six denominations below £1, with the entire shield embossed on the £1 coin.

The new coins are expected to come into circulation this summer – and Mr Dent envisions a success: “I can imagine people playing with them, having them on a tabletop and enjoying them. I felt it was important to have a theme running through from one to another.” he said, referring to the puzzle-like nature of the new design, which requires the coins to be arranged in a particular way to see the Shield of the Royal Arms.

The chief executive of the Royal Mint, Andrew Stafford, has said that the obverse of the coins will still depict the portrait of the Queen, like it has since 1998. The old coins will remain legal tender until they slip out of circulation.

Ski Vacation Equipment Questions And Answers

Author: Admin  |  Category: Office Furniture

Submitted by: Andy Page

When you are planning a ski vacation, many questions are bound to come up regarding ski equipment. Ski equipment can be expensive to buy or rent, so it is good to be have a plan for what you are going to do about ski equipment before you head for ski resort.

To prepare yourself for a thrilling ski vacation, get the answers regarding renting or buying ski equipment. We have listed several commonly asked questions and answers.

I should buy ski equipment or rent it?

This depends primarily on how often you ski and whether you are just taking up skiing or you are an experienced skier. If you are a beginner, it will often make more sense for you to rent the equipment rather than buying it. The equipment is expensive and could be used on only a few trips if your interest in the sport declines or if your skills and interest grows rapidly and you want to upgrade. However, if you are an experienced skier and go on ski vacations at regular intervals, purchasing the equipment is a good option because you can purchase precisely and you won t have to spend the extra time and effort renting equipment each time you ski and hoping the shop has something available that will suit you.

Where should I rent ski equipment from?

The two main options are renting ski equipment form a local ski shop near your home or renting the equipment at or near the ski resort. Many local ski shops offer packages where you can rent skis, poles and ski boots for an entire season. The full season rental option can be a good value if you plan to take several ski vacations a year. It is a particularly good option for kids, since they grow and improve so quickly they often need new equipment by the following year. An advantage of renting your equipment at a local shop is that it is typically quite a bit less expensive than at a shop at the mountain and you can pick up your equipment ahead of time instead of taking whatever is on hand at the resort. The flip side is, if you rent locally you have to get your transport your ski equipment which will require a ski rack or a car with enough room. Another advantage of renting at the mountain is that if you have problems with your ski or boots fit or performance, you can typically exchange them at no cost. Some equipment shops at resorts also their customers keep their equipment at the shop overnight for free. Check it out with the shop if they provide that option.

What does rental package usually include?

Rental packages usually include skis, boots and poles. You will typically get a choice of standard or performance skis. The performance skis are often referred to as demos because they typically have that model of ski for sale in the shop. Ski helmets can also be rented and have become a very common site on the slopes over the last several years. Ski helmets certainly don t take all the risk out of skiing, but they can prevent serious injury and even death in certain ski accidents.

What is a full day ski school package?

A typical package would include all your basic requirements including the ski equipment. You will be allowed to use the equipment for whole day. The instructors will typically help you make sure you have the appropriate equipment and setup before you take to the slopes. Packages are offered as private lessons (one student and one instructor), small groups, or large groups.

Should I opt for insurance while renting equipment?

Most shops will offer damage insurance with ski rentals for a few extra dollars per day. It might seem irritating to pay this extra cost, but it can pay off if you encounter some unexpected rocks on the slope that damage your skis. Ski repair is expensive and a deep scratch or gouge in your ski could cost a hundred dollars or more to repair, especially if the metal edge of the ski is damaged.

Should I rent individually or as a package?

Shops usually offer the option of renting items individually or as a package. The package is usually the way to go if you need all the equipment. If you have your own boots or skis, then renting just what you need would make sense.

There are many incredible places to ski in the United States, but Colorado stands out for the number and quality of the ski resorts. Ask almost any skier who has had the good fortune of going on a Colorado ski vacation and they are likely to rave about it.

Richard Roberts, the President of Oral Roberts University, and his wife, Lindsay Roberts, are accused of illegal political contributions, financial wrong-doing, and wrongful firings in a lawsuit filed Tuesday.

The lawsuit was filed by three former professors who claim “they were wrongfully dismissed after reporting the school’s involvement in a local political race.” According to KTEN television news, “Roberts’ statement says personal expenses are charged to him and he personally pays them on a monthly basis.” On October 3, Roberts “told students and faculty during his weekly chapel Wednesday that the lawsuit is about intimidation, blackmail and extortion.”

Richard has been president of ORU since his father, Oral Roberts university founder and former faith healer, “semi-retired” in 1993.

CARACAS, Venezuela —The Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on February 14, 2005 in Caracas, Venezuela. Brazil and Venezuela signed agreements of cooperation on many areas. According to the Brazilian government this was a strategical encounteur. This meeting is the first of three meetings that President Lula will have with South American Presidents in three days. The scheduled meetings are with the presidents of: Venezuela (February, 14), Guiana (February, 15) and Suriname (February, 16).

President Lula was accompanied by the following comitiva: the Minister of Development, Industry, and External Trade Luiz Fernando Furlan, the Minister of Finance Antônio Palocci, the Minister of Foreign Relations Celso Amorim, the Minister of Health Humberto Costa, the Minister of Mines and Energy Dilma Roussef, the Minister of Tourism Walfrido Mares Guia, the President of Petrobras José Eduardo Dutra, the President of National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES) Guido Mantega, the President of Eletrobrás Silas Rondeau Cavalcante Silva and the Special Secretary for Aquaculture and Fisheries José Fritsch. In addition a delegation of executives representing enterprises from Brazil accompanied the President.

The Brazilian Ministry of External Relations told the trip aims the construction of a strategical alliance and commercial integration between both countries. The Brazilian Presidential Advisor Marco Aurélio Garcia said:”With this gesture, Brazil will consolidate one of its major political goals, which is the constitution of a South American community of nations”. He added: “These agreements with Venezuela are strategical. We want this agreement as a model for other agreements in the region.”

According to President Lula the integration of the Latin America is the priority number one of his government. Days before the arrival in Venezuela and commenting about the trip Lula said: “We’re going to do the same thing in Colombia and in other countries in which integration is no longer a campaign speech but part of the way we deal with real things, day to day”.

The integration of the Latin America is the politics repeatedly proposed by Lula during the meetings of the Foro de São Paulo. According to him and the others members of the Foro there must be a integration among all the left parties and governments of Latin America. The union aims to be an alternative and opposing force to the politics and influence of the richest countries, mainly the United States. Among the organizations which are usually participants of the Foro de São Paulo are: Communist Party of Cuba, Colombian Communist Party, Communist Party of Bolivia, Communist Party of Brazil, Workers’ Party, Paraguayan Communist Party, Peruvian Communist Party, Socialist Party of Peru, National Liberation Army, Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity, Tupamaros.

On December 4, 2001 during the 10th edition of the Foro de São Paulo in Havana Lula said:”A shoal of small fish may mean the finishing of the hungry in our countries, in out continent. We should not think as the History ended on our journey by the Earth. Even it happens just once, or with one gesture, let’s effectively contribute to the improve the life of millions of human beings who live socially excluded by this neoliberal model.”[1]

In Venezuela, once again, he brought out the integration wish: “This is the biggest dream I am carrying, that we can negotiate collectively, not like one country, but like a set of countries so we can do that our people may have the chance to conquer the full citizenship.”

Acupuncture And Acupressure Are They The Same?}

Author: Admin  |  Category: Clothing

Submitted by: Brent McNutt

Some people may confuse acupuncture with acupressure and vice versa. Although both lie on the belief that the human body needs to have a balanced flow of energy in order to be healthy, they are different methods of healing. Typically, they use meridians or points in the body that when stimulated, allows the body to regain the balance of the flow of energy. Both are considered pseudoscience because there is no scientific evidence to prove its effectiveness in healing and relieving certain conditions. Some experts say that these treatments may only give placebo effects to its clients. Others say that the stimulation done with the use of hands and needles releases endorphins and other natural chemicals that produces analgesic effect on the body.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a healing art that dates back in ancient China. It is done with the use of needles which are sterile, disposable and thin. The needles used are different from that used by medical professionals in administering medications which is why, when properly done it does not cause pain or discomfort. These needles are believed to reach the meridians and release it from obstructions. The person undergoing this procedure may only feel a twinge especially on the affected area. Nowadays, this procedure has been modified and studied to ensure safety of the practice. This should be done by trained acupuncturists who have undergone proper education so that the client receives more benefits than harm. The advantage of acupuncture is that the use of the needle provides more accuracy when treating an affected area so it is able to provide quicker relief.

Acupressure

Acupressure is another alternative healing method which originated in China and has existed before acupuncture. It also uses meridians and points in the body in order to have a balanced flow of energy. However, the stimulation is not by the use of needles, but by hands alone. This is somehow comparable to a massage. While acupuncture needs to be done by a trained person, acupressure can be done even by you. All you need to do is learn where the meridians are and what parts of the body they are attached to and you can massage them in order to feel relief from your condition. This is also different from acupuncture which can stimulate many meridians in one time since acupressure only stimulates one or two pressure points during the massage.

Both methods have been said to have favorable effects with the relief of dysmenorrhea, headaches and migraines, back pain, anxiety, depression and allergies. Studies are also being conducted regarding the effect of these methods in relieving side effects of chemotherapy for cancer such as the urge to throw up and vomiting. If you want pain relief that targets the affected area precisely, you can undergo acupuncture. However, if you do not feel comfortable with needles, you can choose acupressure. Both can give relief although the results may vary from person to person, depending on the severity of the condition, your tolerance to pain and your bodys response to the treatment.

Swedish nuclear reactors shut down over safety concerns

Author: Admin  |  Category: Uncategorized

Saturday, August 5, 2006

Correction — August 14, 2006 This article reports that the Forsmark Nuclear Power Plant reactor cooling systems failed. This is incorrect. Two of the four emergency diesel generators supplying power to the plant failed to start as expected, during a reactor shut down. The emergency cooling system, which functioned normally was sufficient to meet the reactor’s needs. Wikinews apologises for the error

Three of Sweden’s ten nuclear reactors have been shut down due to safety concerns following an incident last week at the Forsmark Nuclear Power Plant, in which the reactor cooling systems failed. The reactor has since been shut down there. After the incident, the Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate, SKI asked all the nuclear power plants to demonstrate that the same failure could not happen in them. On Wednesday, two more reactors at Oskarshamn were shut down after the operator said their safety could not be guaranteed.

Last week’s incident at the Forsmark plant was triggered by a short circuit that cut power to the reactor cooling system. Two of the four backup generators also failed to start, but the remaining two worked and were sufficient to meet the plant’s needs. Greenpeace reports that the fault in the backup power systems were traced to new equipment installed in 1993.

The spokesman of the Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate Anders Bredfell denied that there was any danger of a meltdown, adding that there was also a backup gas turbine to power the cooling system in an emergency.

However, Lars-Olov Höglund, who was responsible for the nuclear plant Forsmark for many years, said the incident was the most dangerous one since Chernobyl and Three Mile island, and that a meltdown was avoided only by pure luck. His views have however been questioned as he is involved in litigation with the Swedish nuclear industry and is known as an outspoken nuclear critic. Researchers at the Royal Institute of Technology as well as the personnel at the power plant were critical of Höglunds’ view.

Speaking to BBC News, SKI spokesman Anders Bredfell said that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was informed of the incident as required and that the incident classes as a ‘2’ in the 0-7 scale used by the IAEA to assess the severity of the incident.

Another reactor in Forsmark and a fifth at Ringhals nuclear power plant have been offline due to planned maintenance work. With five of its ten reactors down, Sweden’s power generation capacity is down by almost a fifth.

The environmental group Greenpeace called on the government to shut down all reactors and probe whether the fault was a generic one. The Green Party has called for an independent investigation of the incident. Sweden is scheduled to retire all its nuclear power plants in the next few decades, as decided by a referendum in 1980.

Dog flu spreads across the US

Author: Admin  |  Category: Uncategorized

Saturday, October 15, 2005

Dogs are normally resistant to most flu strains. Since about 2000, a new strain of dog flu has been spreading in America, and there’s no vaccine to prevent it.

To limit exposure to the flu, some dog owners are avoiding public places like dog shows and parks. Since the flu can spread where groups of dogs are housed, some dog owners are nervous about the practice of putting their pets in kennels. According to Edward Dubovil, director of the animal virology lab at Cornell University, 100% of dogs appear to be susceptible to infection by this new flu strain. It is estimated that 1-5% of infected dogs are dying from this flu strain. The symptoms of dog flu are akin to those of kennel cough, a more common and less serious illness.

Starting in 2004 there have been many outbreaks of flu at dog race tracks. Since early in 2004, researchers have been working to characterize the type of flu that is infecting dogs. In September of 2005 it was reported that this dog flu strain had crossed over from horses to dogs. This type of flu virus has been infecting horses for at least 40 years. It is expected that existing flu vaccines for horses can soon be adapted for use in dogs.

The spread of a horse flu virus to dogs is an example of what could happen with bird flu. Currently the bird flu is transmitted from birds to humans but does not spread easily from person to person. The new strain of dog flu shows signs of having been genetically modified from the original horse-preferring virus strain making it easy to transmit from dog to dog. Future genetic modifications of bird flu could better adapt it to humans and allow it to spread from person to person. The chance of such viral evolution can be reduced by limiting exposure of humans to bird flu.

At this time, the new dog flu virus strain does not seem to be a danger for humans. However, humans will be monitored for signs of infection by new genetic variants of the dog flu. Due to the close physical association between pet dogs and humans, a flu strain that could jump from dogs to humans would be of great concern. Recently evolved virus strains that jump from one species to another are often particularly lethal because the newly infected species may have little or no immunity to the new virus strain.

Why Experts Have Acne Scar Removal Wrong

by

Clarita Milles

If you go and see any doctor, dermatologist, or skin specialist in the hope of removing acne scars you will often be presented with an array of chemical treatments aimed at burning the skin. However, if you speak to someone with a background in natural treatments they will direct you towards a completely contrasting solution. These natural solutions are repeatedly shown to be as effective, if not more so, and carry none of the risks associated with chemical treatments.

For this reason the following seeks to demonstrate and identify the means in which skin specialists achieve the results of removing acne scarring through chemical peels in comparison to natural topical solutions. The best solution is as clear as day.

THE PROCESSES INVOLVED

Chemical peels work as acid is painted onto the skin, which in turn burns the top layer of skin. This burnt layer then eventually peels off the face after a week which allows for the growth of new skin to come to the surface. The theory is that the thickened pigmented epidermis showing cellular disarray (acne scars) is replaced by fresh, orderly, uniform cells. A new band of dermis then forms between the epidermis and the underlying tissue, which enhances the elasticity of the skin.

Natural topical solutions such as natural microdermabrasion creams softly remove the top layer of undesired scar tissue through the use of micro-crystals. This process skims away the top layer of effected skin just like chemical peels, however it is a much more subtle process. The regeneration of new skin cells are then speed-up by natural compounds such as Helix Aspersa Muller GlycoConjugates, which replace scar collagen with a mixture of skin cells and invisible collagen fibers, bringing elasticity and vitality back to the skin.

THE DURATION OF TREATMENT

Chemical Peel treatments are a long and extensive process. Initially the skin must be pre-treated with the application of prescribed creams that both soften and anesthetize the skin. The individual must then undergo a series of acid burning sessions. Finally, the skin must go through a healing process that includes the application of further prescribed creams to provide both recovery and ongoing maintenance to the recently affected area.

The application of natural cream solutions are not as complex. The routine is as simple as applying the creams in the comfort of one’s bathroom after a shower.

THE RISKS ASSOCIATED

All forms of chemical treatment carry a degree of risks, chemical peels are no different. These side effects can vary depending on the patient and generally, the deeper the chemical peel, higher the likelihood of complications arising. These include, but are not limited to:

– The flaring of acne or cold sores – An inflammation of the tissue around the mouth (peri-oral dermatitis) – Peeled skin may also inflame resulting in unsightly scarring – Increased pigmentation such as transient spots of hyper or hypopigmentation – Complete avoidance of direct UV rays – Lengthy recovery and maintenance procedures – All of which may last for months

As one might assume acne treatment cream carries no such danger. As the ingredients comprise of only natural substances they work harmoniously with the body’s skin cells and present no risk of side effects or nasty irritation.

NATURAL ACNE TREATMENT CREAM IS THE ONLY SOLUTION

When determining the best

acne scars treatment

available it is easy to see that natural solutions are easier to apply, safer, and yet produce the same results. In light of this one should look towards a topical solution such as Bioskinexfol for their

treatment for scars

.

Wedding next year for Sweden’s crown princess

Author: Admin  |  Category: Uncategorized

Friday, February 27, 2009

On February 24th the Swedish Royal Court announced that the Crown Princess Victoria is to be married in 2010 to her boyfriend and former fitness trainer Daniel Westling. KP Victoria, 31, and Daniel, 35, have been in a relationship for seven years. As the wedding is to be held in the summer of 2010, it gives the court 18 months to prepare, contemplate the wedding dress of the Crown Princess, and complete the guest-list – which will include prominent guests from Europe and the world.

According to the Swedish constitution, KP Victoria must ask for the King’s approval for the marriage, who then has to call a cabinet council so that the government can give its approval. This was done on Tuesday morning, just before the court announced the engagement.

After the wedding, Daniel will be given the title of Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland. Their children will be next in line to the throne after Crown Princess Victoria.
