Do It Your Self Carpet And Upholstery Spot Removal

Author: Admin  |  Category: Kitchen Home Improvement

By Tony Moore

I have been in the professional carpet and upholstery cleaning industry for over ten years and I have seen it all. Milk, blood, and mud, you name it I have cleaned it.

There are many products you can pick up at the local Walmart or grocery store that work great. The only problem is that they are usually vague about the use of the product.

Well I can make your life a little easier by suggesting some more safe and color safe ways to clean it up.

First thing to know is that if you have a red stain on any thing, please do not try to get it out your self. Leave that one to a pro. There are procedures and very effective solutions that your local carpet cleaning company can use and save you from ruining your investments. Remember that red is the hardest stain to remove except for the carpet cleaner. He is trained and equipped to remove them safely.

Now for every thing else there is an effective and cheap way to clean spots on your carpet and upholstery. If you are buying products that work for you then you are not reading this now so let me tell you what works.

Go to your local Auto Zone or auto parts store and pick up auto upholstery and carpet cleaner in the can. Tuff Stuff is one of my favorites. The cleaners that come in the can are almost all foaming cleaners, which make your job a lot easier. The foam will penetrate the fibers on contact and as it foams it releases and suspends the soils and stains. You may need to gently scrub the areas with a soft bristled brush or towel.

TIP: Only use white rags or towels when cleaning carpet and upholstery to reduce the risk of color transfer.

TIP 2: You can use these foaming cleaners to clean entire upholstery (sofa, chair, ottoman, etc even if it states dry clean only.

TIP 3: Always test product first on a hidden area to save your self embarrassment. You know, just in case.

TIP 4: If you need a pro or more info go to my site (see byline) for more help.

The Shades And Colors Of Hardwood Floor

Author: Admin  |  Category: Kitchen Home Improvement

By Richard Dinae

You have a wide range of stain shades and colors for hardwood floors. You can depend on color charts for different colors but the colors on the surface still looks different from the colors printed on paper. In addition, a particular stain has different effect on different types of hardwood floors so it is best to consider hardwood species.

Moreover, stain also looks a bit different on newly installed wooden floor from on refinished flooring though the right sanding is helpful to have a better stain effect. It is recommended to try different kinds of stain colors on a certain sample of wood in order to get an idea of the result.

Hardwood floor has different kinds of shades and colors and some of the most popular stain choices are the following:

1.The natural stain of hardwood floor looks like bare wood.

2.Light shade is a popular hardwood floor shade since it adds a fine tone to the wood as well as it darkens the grain. 3.Another popular choice is the medium shade, which is darker than the light shade. 4.The dark shade is often very dark in color and has a rich feel. 5.Hardwood floor custom color is any color aside from brown, sand of tan.

Most people choose deep green or bright red that can give striking results. Usually, it is best to select a vibrant color when it comes to smaller rooms or areas.

When you find the shade that you want, make sure to try it in not noticeable places such as inside your closet. Make sure to let the stain dry before making a decision. Remember that the color of the paint tends to become lighter when it dries.

One of the most practical materials used for flooring is hardwood. Its protective finish can wear off especially in areas that are often used so it is necessary to refinish the hardwood floor. Dulled areas of hard wood that are hidden for a long time must be refinished in order to freshen up the hardwood floor.

Hardwood finishing job may be quite difficult and messy because you first need to remove the previous finish of the floor. If you do not have any experience in this field, it is best to hire a hardwood flooring professional who has the knowledge in refinishing floors. These hardwood floor professionals have the appropriate tools to do the job such as power sanders to eliminate the existing finish of the floor and to accept the new stain.

Make sure to do a refinish test to know if the hardwood flooring is dirty or shot. Here are the ways to do a flooring refinish test:

Focus on the high-traffic areas where the finish is more abused. Pour one tablespoon of water to the floor and if the water forms beads it means that, the floor is sealed properly. Usually, you need to cleaning and stain removal. On the other hand, if the water takes several minutes to be absorbed and leaves a slight dark mark on the floor it means that the finish is partly worn. You must not wait long to refinish your floor. In addition, if the water soaks right in and then leaves dark spot it means that you need to refinish the floor immediately.

How Driveways Renovations Increase The House Value In The Market

Author: Admin  |  Category: Kitchen Home Improvement

By Adriana Noton

Preparing a home for sale not only means making the interior inviting to prospective buyers, but it also means creating an exterior that is attractive, fresh and clean. Homeowners often do not want to begin a big-ticket remodeling project, but still need to make the existing facilities look more appealing. Driveways renovations increase the house value in the market, and are one way to help a home sell quickly.

If completely replacing the old driveway is out of the question, there are alternate options. While the basic sub-structure may be sound, the surface may be chipped, cracked, and stained with oil. Less expensive alternatives for visual repair may include refacing with asphalt, installing pavers, or even a applying a simple paint job.

A driveway need not be at its worst to benefit from re-applying asphalt sealant. A relatively few short years of exposure can cause parts of the paving to begin to pull apart, due to an annual cycle of temperature, sun and moisture. These are the same kinds of erosive stresses that cause even mountain chains to crumble away, and driveways are not nearly as tough.

This project can be undertaken either by a homeowner or by professionals. Doing it yourself can save over half the cost, but requires some initial planning, preparation, and care in order to avoid making any costly errors. This kind of project starts with a thorough cleaning and weed removal, sometimes requiring the use of a pressurized sprayer, and the possible the application of herbicides.

There are four general types of sealers, including standard asphalt sealants, and a relatively new product that suspends the asphalt particles in water. Coal-tar based sealers work well in high-traffic regions, and go a little further to resist all vehicle fluids as well as the air and sun. Acrylic sealers are not petroleum based, but are another sealing option that come in different colors. Acrylics are a little more expensive, but generally last very well.

If the original roadway was concrete, similar surface preparations are required prior to sealing, with the addition of filling in any cracks, while taking care to avoid covering the expansion joints. Two coats of paint should be applied, allowing the concrete to thoroughly dry each time. This kind of project should ideally be undertaken on a dry day, when the air temperature is in the low seventies, and the ground is above fifty degrees.

Other renovation materials include manufactured paving stones, which are available in both mortared and mortar-less styles. When mortar is applied, structure becomes less flexible, and will not allow movement of the stones. Mortar-less paving is the most popular variety, and utilizes a special mixture of sand in the spaces between individual stones. Both methods can dramatically improve the looks of the home’s exterior, making the driveway into an asset that ties the exterior landscaping to the home itself.

Sealants and new surfaces are a good idea for all homeowners, and driveways renovations increase the house value in the market. If your home is in an area of extreme weather conditions, using them can do more than simply guarantee a rapid home sale. Such treatments are an example of a relatively small investment in maintenance that save a great deal of money on future repairs. Whether preparing a home for sale or simply keeping it looking good, driveway renovation is an excellent choice.

Chef Coats Are A Chefs Protective Gear

There are all sorts of different professions that you can choose for your life and many of them can be extremely enjoyable and pay well too. Many people feel that work is simply something that you have to do to pay the bills but this does not necessarily have to be the case. Being a chef can be one of the most satisfying, challenging and enjoyable professions that you can choose. It is certainly not the easiest profession to get into as there is a huge amount of training and hard work that you will need to put in if you want to be a successful chef. This does not mean it is not worth every minute though, once most people have carried out all the training required to become a chef they never look back and no other career will ever be able to match up to the amount of different challenges and hurdles that you will have to overcome every single day.

Being prepared to be a chef

Taking care of all the training and applying for chef jobs are simply not enough. You need to make sure that you are fully prepared and that you have all the different equipment and clothing that you need to practice the job well and most importantly of all safely. A kitchen can be quite a dangerous place if you do not have everything that you need to protect yourself from cuts, burns or any other injuries that can easily occur in the frantic kitchen environment. One of the most important parts of any chef’s equipment is an excellent selection of knives. Almost everything that you do on a daily basis in the kitchen will require the use of a knife of some kind. It really is worth spending a good amount of money on your knives to ensure that you get a very good set. Many chefs will only ever buy one or 2 sets during their career as a good set will last you for many years. Equally as important as a good set of knives is having the correct protective clothing. Obviously, a kitchen is filled with hot ovens, stoves and boiling liquids so you need to be protected against these items. Having an excellent quality chef coat is very important as this will protect you from any spills. Oven gloves are extremely vital too as is a good pair of chef pants.

Where to purchase your chefs apparel

There are a number of different places that you can buy a chefs coat from. There are many high street stores that retail a good selection of chef coats and the prices are generally pretty reasonable. However, the prices and the selection simply cannot compete with what you can obtain on the internet. You will be able to locate a plethora of websites that specialize in chef’s protective clothing and the prices here are a vast amount lower than the high street. The main reason for this is that the sites tend to buy in much larger amounts and they can therefore pass on more discounts to you.

Hvac Contractor Changing Unit Filters Monthly Critical Maintenance

Author:  |  Category: Kitchen Home Improvement

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – Many people neglect maintenance tasks for their heating and air conditioning units like changing the filters, which negatively affects residents’ health and the effectiveness and life of the unit, according to Gabriel Carini.

“Unfortunately some people don’t realize how important filters are so they don’t make it a priority,” says the owner of Carini Heating and Air Conditioning in San Diego.

The indoor comfort system ductwork functions as an expressway for pollutants like pollen, pet hair and dander, mold spores, dust mites, mildew, smoke, odors and bacteria. A high-quality air filter removes them from air circulation, but in order to be effective filters must be replaced or cleaned regularly.

Clogged filters also make the unit work harder and use more energy to maintain the indoor temperature. The HVAC contractor says dirty filters cut down on its life expectancy and increase the chance of needing a costly air conditioning or furnace repair.

“For excellent performance, use the best filter that is compatible with their home comfort systems and their budgets, replacing them monthly or as needed,” says Carini. “

There are many types of filters to choose from with different sizes, efficiencies, designs and quality. Instead of the brand or price, Carini suggests homeowners should look at the Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value to determine the quality of a filter, the higher the number the more efficient the filter is at removing indoor air particles.

“A filter with a MERV 12 is the best balance between airborne particulate removal and overall heating and cooling system efficiency,” he says. “Anything higher than 12 is going to cause too much drag for the standard residential system to effectively handle.”

The system manual lists the recommended size, type and maintenance schedule. Heating and AC repair, service and installation technicians can also help homeowners determine this information. It is important to find out this information for sure because some systems have multiple filter locations and types of filters.

Design Your Own Double Sided Curtains

Author:  |  Category: Kitchen Home Improvement

By Jessica Ackerman

Double sided curtains can add a beautiful touch of decorating flair to any room in your home. By designing curtains to be double sided, you’ll be able to play with many different color and pattern combination’s. This style of curtains is a great solution if you want to create design interest by using two contrasting colors or patterns. However, you might also want to use this style so that you can enjoy colored curtains indoors while displaying plain white from the outside.

Measuring the Windows

You’ll need to carefully measure the windows before you can make a pair of double sided curtains. If you already have your curtain rod installed, you can measure vertically from the top of the rod to the point where you want the curtain hem to fall. Then, add two additional inches to this measurement for the bottom hem and two inches for the top header. If you desire a deeper hem or a fuller header, adjust your measurements accordingly. When measuring the width, you’ll need to consider the desired fullness of your curtains. If you measure the overall width of the window, using this width for each of the two panels will create a nice amount of fullness. However, you can adjust this measurement to create the desired effect. Add two inches to each curtain panel measurement to allow for the side hems. Once you have these measurements, you can use them to purchase the correct amount of fabric. Because the curtains will be double sided, you’ll need to purchase the same amount of fabric in two different colors or patterns.

Necessary Materials

In addition to your two different colors of fabric, you’ll also need straight pins, a measuring tape, a sharp pair or scissors, and a sewing machine. If you prefer, you could use a rotary cutter and a mat to cut your fabric. Before cutting your fabric, you should wash and dry it first so that it is pre-shrunk. Then, iron it so that it is wrinkle-free and easy to work with. Cut the fabric into the properly sized curtain panels so that you have two panels from each fabric selection.

Sewing the Curtains

To sew the first curtain panel, position the two different fabric pieces with their right sides facing each other and pin together. Sew the top edges together using a half-inch seam allowance. You can then sew down two inches along one side. Measure down an additional one and a half inches, leaving that area unstitched to allow for the curtain rod. Then, continue to sew down the edge until you reach the bottom. Sew the other side of the curtain panel in the same fashion.

Sew the bottom edge, again using a half-inch seam allowance, making sure to leave three inches unstitched. Clip all corners then turn the curtain so that the right sides of the fabric are facing out, utilizing the three inch unstitched opening. Make sure the corners are pushed out so that they look crisp then close the bottom opening by using a slip-stitch. Sew straight across the top of the panel, one half inch from the top. Measure down an additional two inches, and again sew straight. Then, measure down another one and a half inches and sew straight across again, forming the rod pocket. Repeat the process to sew the other curtain panel. Iron the curtains, hang them on the rod, and enjoy.
