The Qualifications And Experience An Eye Doctor Needs

Author: Admin  |  Category: Radiology

When selecting an eye doctor, numerous factors need consideration. Your sight is vital to your quality of life. By visiting this professional at least one time per year, you are taking steps to maintain it and potentially to prevent loss of it. The health care provider you select for this responsibility needs to be someone you feel comfortable working with on a regular basis. He or she should be someone with the qualifications and experience to help you to trust in the information provided. Not just any practitioner is good enough. The Key Qualifications to Look ForAn eye doctor should be able to provide you with a list of credentials that showcase his or her abilities to provide service to you. You should ask for them. Ultimately, you want to ensure this provider has the ability to diagnosis, treat, and even prevent any type of health conditions related to your optical health. The two most common types of providers are ophthalmologists and optometrists. Both should have certifications and licensing to operate in your state as these positions. The education obtained should be from an accredited school for these programs. The state board of optometry or state medical board will hold these licenses for you to verify. It should be for the current year. In addition, if you are working with an ophthalmologist, this person should have an internship and residency experience. This is part of their training and development.ExperienceConsider the experience the provider has too. If you are looking for a provider who will work with children, be sure he or she has extensive experience in this field. Determine the types of treatment and procedures the provider offers. Some may not perform surgeries, for example. Others may focus their practice on specialized conditions. Some providers use the most up-to-date technologies available. Many will put additional time into training to provide improved abilities or specialized treatments. Look for a provider that is known as one of the best in his or her field, especially in areas of research and development. This is especially important in situations where your condition warrants care that is more extensive. When working with an eye doctor for standard vision screening, get to know the provider well. Discuss your situation in-depth. Ask questions. See whether or not the provider takes the time to sit down and talk to you about your health and wellbeing. The more comfortable you feel with this provider the better. Ultimately, it is up to you to determine the best possible person for the job. Your sight is dependent on the selection you make. Get information about the experience and education of the individual and use your instinct to know if you can trust this professional.

US continues to deny Red Cross access to all detainees

Author: Admin  |  Category: Uncategorized

Sunday, May 14, 2006

In a statement released on Thursday, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said that ICRC President Jacob Kellenberger “deplored the fact that the U.S. authorities had not moved closer to granting the ICRC access to persons held in undisclosed locations.”

The ICRC started making requests to get access to all U.S. detainees, including the ones held in alleged secret prisons, over two years ago. After Kellenberger met with senior officials, including Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, and National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley, he was again refused access to terrorist suspects held in secret detention centers, chief ICRC spokesperson Antonella Notari said on Friday.

Kellenberger said that “No matter how legitimate the grounds for detention, there exists no right to conceal a person’s whereabouts or to deny that he or she is being detained”.

In response, U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said that the ICRC has access to the vast majority of U.S. detainees, but said that “There is a certain subcategory of individuals who have forfeited their protections under the Geneva Conventions and there is not an obligation to allow access to those individuals.”

How To Make Smart Investments In Your Home

Author: Admin  |  Category: Management Software

By Penny Lane

If you are a homeowner, you probably have a pretty long list of things you would love to do in your home if your budget were unlimited. Unfortunately, few people do have an unlimited budget, which means you will have to pick and choose what changes and upgrades will be best for your home. The smartest changes you can make are improvements that make your living situation more comfortable, while also adding long-term value to your home. The last thing you want is to improve so much you need a Frisco bankruptcy attorney or Frisco bankruptcy lawyer, so before you begin making your upgrades, think carefully about your home. High value improvements take planning, so do not jump into anything without thought.

Some of the best changes you can make to your home make the building and property more energy-efficient. This is going to save you money immediately, make your home more earth friendly and add value when the time comes to sell your house. In many cases, energy-efficient upgrades make your home more comfortable. If you replace old appliances with more efficient ones, you will find yourself spending less time on chores like laundry and washing dishes. Big upgrades like new windows or energy-efficient heating options will save you money and make your home warmer during the cold winter months.

If you are looking for better heating options, you have a number of choices. Wood burning and pellet burning stoves provide warmth and allow you to cut back on the amount of money you pay the utility company each month. You will need to pay for fuel, but you have a lot of control over how much you use, and wood and wood pellets are often much cheaper over the long haul than running your furnace. The stoves also allow you to heat the space you are in to a comfortable temperature while not wasting heat throughout the entire house. Some stoves even allow you to burn fuel like corn, making your heating even cheaper. Best of all, homeowners love the look and feel of rooms with fireplaces and cozy heating accessories.

Homeowners also have the option of choosing expensive upgrades that make major changes in the home. You can install light panels in your home that allow you to utilize solar power. While this is a very costly investment, it adds a great deal of value to your home and over the course of several years, will save you in heating and cooling costs. Be sure to work with a qualified professional with solar energy experience if you are thinking about an upgrade like this.

Finally, one of the smartest investments you can make in your home is living in it, caring for it and gradually building equity. Make small improvements as you can afford them and take care of your property. Just keeping up with general household maintenance will save you a lot of money on big repairs and it will make it easier to sell your home when the time comes.

Queensland prisoners put to work manufacturing water tanks

Author: Admin  |  Category: Uncategorized

Monday, April 30, 2007

Prisoners in the Australian state of Queensland have been put to work manufacturing rainwater tanks to help meet a shortfall in supply.

The southeast corner of Queensland, which is currently undergoing one of its worst droughts on record, is experiencing a boom in the rainwater tank industry. Households, encouraged by subsidies introduced by the Beattie government, have enthusiastically begun installing rainwater tanks as well as other water-saving devices. These subsidies have led to a shortfall in supply however, with some households waiting months for tanks to be installed.

The new initiative, announced by Premier Peter Beattie as well as Corrective Services minister Judy Spence will see prisoners at Woodford Correctional Centre, Australia’s largest gaol, constructing tanks for AU$4 per day. Spence has pledged not to use the cheap labour to undercut existing tank suppliers. Beattie also pointed out that the programme would give prisoners constructing the tanks valuable work skills for when their sentences are completed. If the programme is successful, it may be extended to other gaols around the state.

The Beattie government has been increasingly criticised over recent months for its failure to handle the water crisis engulfing Southeast Queensland. Opponents accuse the Government of a lack of planning foresight with regards to water supply for the booming area, which includes state capital Brisbane, as well as other cities such as Ipswich, Toowoomba and Gold Coast.

RU486 Abortion pill hearings begin in Australia

Author: Admin  |  Category: Uncategorized

Friday, February 3, 2006

An Australian Senate inquiry into the abortion pill “RU486” has started public hearings in Melbourne. A controversial conscience vote on the issue to overturn laws which prohibit Australian women’s access to the drug, will be held in Federal parliament on February 9.

The Senate committee is considering a bill to remove ministerial control of the abortifacient drug Mifepristone – or RU486. Health Minister Tony Abbott says the issue of whether to allow women access to the drug “is one of principle.” Abbott, who is against abortion, insists he is the right person to control the drug’s use in Australia.

Besides its use internationally as an “abortion pill”, there may also be a small chance that it may help treat various other medical disorders including prostate cancer, breast cancer, and inoperable brain tumours amongst other conditions. Mifepristone is effectively banned in Australia, with Minister Abbott controlling whether it is made available.

The bill, sponsored by a group of female senators and MPs, would hand Mr Abbott’s powers over to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) – the body that controls all other pharmaceutical drugs in Australia. The bill seeks to have the TGA determine the drug’s availability and not the Health Minister.

Democrats Leader Lyn Allison, said she was “cautiously confident” the parliament will overturn the current arrangements when the conscience vote takes place. “Those who are in favour of the bill are saying this is a choice that ought to be available to women and that on the basis of the studies that have been done overseas it is at least as safe as surgical termination,” Senator Allison said.

Reproductive Choice Australia (RCA)say that medicine is placed at the whim of politics, saying that over 80% of Australians are pro-choice. A national survey found 87% of women aged 18 to 49 support a woman’s right to choose.

RU486 is available in much of western Europe and North America, but was effectively banned in Australia under laws initiated by now-retired pro-life senator Brian Harradine.

Christine Read, medical director of family planning group FPA Health, said Misoprostol, also known as Cytotec, is across the world to invoke contractions to expel the fetus after a woman had taken RU486. “It is used extensively in obstetrics and gynaecology for termination of pregnancy and to induce labour, so it’s used in the medical management of miscarriage,” Dr Read said.

Dr Sharman Stone, said yesterday the issue was not about Misoprostol, but rather that “the TGA should make the decision about any drugs – that is its job. Any other conversations about other drugs are simply irrelevant to this argument,” Dr Stone said.

Family First senator Steve Fielding says lifting a ban on RU486 would pave the way for do-it-yourself home abortions. “RU486 is different to other drugs in that it is an abortion drug which could see do-it-yourself home abortions,” he said in a statement. “The question is, should policy be made by bureaucrats or our elected leaders?

Senator Fielding claims Australians are worried about the high number of abortions in Australia, as reflected in submissions received by the Senate committee.

On Monday the committee will move to Sydney for a final day of hearings.
